Rules for Nordic walking competitions:

  • A participant in the Nordic walking competition treats other walkers with respect and does not hinder other participants either physically (pushing, blocking with body or poles) or verbally by making remarks;
  • During the competition, the participant has a number pinned to their chest area, in a clearly visible place;
  • The participant walks according to the Nordic walking technique – the arms (poles) are directed parallel to the body in the direction of walking, and with each step, the pole is pushed off the ground (the right pole touches the ground simultaneously with the left foot and the left pole – simultaneously with the right foot; both feet must not be simultaneously lifted off the ground). When pushing off, the arm must be directed back at least to the hip (the moment of placing the pole coincides with the moment when the heel of the opposite foot touches the ground);
  • The participant does not move with running or jumping movements, or bent at the knees (skiing technique);
  • While on the course, poles are not raised (waved) with the sharp end up or horizontally;
  • During the competition, it is prohibited to place poles lying on the ground;
  • If a participant needs to adjust the poles (change the pole length, change the size of the grip glove) or change the asphalt tips of the poles, the participant does so by stepping aside from the course, but not leaving the course;
  • If it is necessary to stop during the competition by removing the pole(s) from the hand(s), the participant carefully ensures that the poles are vertically supported against themselves and are kept close;
  • At the drinking points of the competition, it is allowed to keep the poles in hand and drink while continuing to walk forward. While drinking, it is allowed not to use the Nordic walking technique for about 10 m, but running is prohibited;
  • It is prohibited to shorten the course by using a shorter route to the finish;
  • A participant is warned or disqualified if they do not comply with the competition rules;
  • The course judge has the right to issue a warning or disqualify a participant. During the competition, a participant can receive two warnings. For each warning, 2 minutes are added to the participant's finish time. For a violation of the competition rules after the third warning, the participant is disqualified. For a gross violation of the competition rules (for example, running, shortening the course, non-compliance with point 1 of the competition rules), the judge may disqualify the participant immediately, without issuing a warning;
